On March 22, at the Center for Creative Industries of Riga Technical University, the 5th competition for the construction of bridge from pasta “STiKS” took place.
From pasta and glue, participants gathered strong bridges. This year there were 75 spaghetti designers from 8 educational institutions. They competed in groups of schoolchildren and students.
Within 6 hours you had to build your spaghetti bridge from pasta Dobeles dzirnavnieks. Young engineers used different designs and binders. Participants used different types of glue to fasten bridge parts.
The strongest bridge built, which was built by the team of random brokoļi from the Jelgava State Gymnasium (Jelgavas Valsts ģimnāzija), withstood a load of almost 53 kg. Second place winners were Trakie krabji 2.1 from Riga Craft Secondary School. Their bridge was able to withstand 34.3 kg. The third place was taken by the team of Preila primary school “atgales tilti” with a bridge withstanding a load of 33 kg.
In the category of students, in the competition for the construction of bridges on the spot, ahead of 16 opposing teams, the Ampēriņš team won with a score of almost 159 kg. In turn, in the competition for the construction of bridges "at home", the first place was taken by the RAM team with a sustained load of 418 kg.
After the end of the competition, the results of the forecast competition were summed up. In it, assuming that the strongest bridge can withstand 412 kg, Andris Barkevics turned out to be the most accurate, having received prizes from Red Bull and Grindex.
The best bridge builders with the support of Grindeks will go to defend the honor of Latvia at the RECCS 2014 Spaghetti Bridge World Championship, which will be held in Budapest on May 30. The pasta bridges in these building competitions will be even bigger and stronger.
